AAUW Honolulu partners with FoundHer to fund women entrepreneurs

by Valerie Lam

We are delighted to announce AAUW Honolulu’s support of Hawai‘i FoundHER, an accelerator program designed to empower Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and/or Asian women-led businesses.

In 2023, The World Economic Forum reported that women-founded start-ups received 2% or less of venture capital funding invested in Europe and the United States. But women-owned businesses contribute to economic growth, lead to more innovative solutions and products, reduce gender inequality, and invest back into their communities. Women-owned businesses tend to generate more revenue, have higher job growth, and have a higher average return on investment than other firms.1

Female entrepreneurship is on the rise, and AAUW Honolulu is proud to support local businesses fueled by mana wāhine from across our island home. Rooted in culture and community, FoundHER is the only operating women’s business accelerator providing childcare and non-dilutive grant funds. The 6-month program helps women entrepreneurs with businesses in 5 key sectors of Hawai’i’s economy: Tech, Fashion, Health & Wellness, Food Systems/Restaurants, and Keiki/Education. Our community grant to FoundHER will support a cohort of wāhine-led businesses to obtain resources related to funding, stipends for ‘ohana care, mentorship, and community networking and marketing events.

We are excited to share FoundHER’s mission and work with you, and we hope you take the time to learn about these brilliant female entrepreneurs. Don’t forget to support their small businesses!

Looking for the next group of women-owned businesses to support now!

In conjunction with the announcement of this exciting partnership, FoundHER is accepting applications for businesses to join Cohort 4 starting August 1st. To learn more or apply visit FoundHER at https://foundher.org/
